Kolkata witnessed a stunning show with superlative entertainment and fun on Saturday, 1st November 2014 at the Vidya Mandir Auditorium, anchored by ex-student, Rajat Baid. A total of 12 Alumni Associations participated with a Three-Member team each. The antakshari was based on Hindi Film Songs. There were 2 Semi Finals of 6 teams each wherein 3 interesting rounds, including an audio-visual round, were played in each semi final. The teams were engrossed and fought hard to gather maximum points. The best 6 teams based on accumulated points made it to the Finals. South Point Ex Students Association (ASPEXS) were winners, followed by Association of La Martiniere Alumni (Alma) (1st RUNNERS UP), and Alumni of Apeejay Schools, Kolkata (ALOAK) (2nd RUNNERS UP)
Entrepreneurship Seminar was held on 22nd Sept at Vidya Mandir Auditorium for 500 students of Class of XI-XII of our Alma Mater. Three distinguished speakers who are achievers in their respective fields enlightened the students about opportunities in Entrepreneurship - Mr. Arun Churiwal (MD of Rajasthan Spinning & Weaving Mills Ltd), Dr. Banick (Faculty of IMI, Delhi) & Mr. Rajesh Toshniwal (CEO - Toshniwal Ent Controls Pvt Ltd.)
It was a very helpful session for the students and assisted them towards making the right decisions in their careers with a clear prospective.
Our Alumni organized its 1st Blood Donation Camp in association with Belle Vue Clinic on 7th Sep 2014 at school premises. Mr Pradip Tandon, CEO of Belle Vue Clinic graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Around 70 donors (which included teachers, staff, parents of present students, Alumnus and friends of Alumnus) attended the camp out of which only 57 were successful donors, rejections were mainly due to medical reasons.
This event was organized by Blood Donation Committee comprising of Mr. Rajendra Raja (Convener), Mr. Kishan Khandelwal & Mr Gautam Jhunjhunwala, Governing Body members and supporters of Alumni.
The 19th Annual General Meeting of Birla High School Alumni was held on 30th August at Birla High School. The meeting was well attended and Governing Body was elected unanimously under the leadership of Mr. Sanjay Jain. Meeting was followed by snacks in the school canteen.
Alike previous years, this year too our ALUMNI organized the DENTAL CAMP for students of classes 9 & 10.The camp was held over two days on 8th July & 9th July. Dr. Mallika and Dr. Gargi checked the teeth of nearly 400 students and were advised to take proper care of them too. They educated that accurate hygiene is very much important to maintain strong teeth throughout one’s life. The initiative of the alumni was well appraised by the students and teachers of the school. The students were very happy and thanked the alumni with a request to continue the noble cause in future too. The students along with the co-ordinator gifted a token of appreciation to the doctors.
The much awaited 4th musical evening of the Alumni was held at Haldiram's Banquet. Around 200 members and their spouses attended the event on 19th April. We also had a good attendance of school teachers & staff. The ambience was informal and old anecdotes were exchanged making the old boys nostalgic. Soon everybody wanted to sing and some joined on the dance floor. The food was delicious which the members thoroughly enjoyed. The evening ended with members looking forward to their next get-together.
Inter Alumni Cricket Tournament -
Inter Alumni Cricket Tournament was organized by St. Xavier's on 16th Feb 2014 at their School Grounds. It was six side team. Our team consisted of Nishit Gelani, Anurag Bajaj, Jigar Seth, Rajesh Bhandari, Sudeep Lohia and Satish Birla.
The Tournament was followed by lunch & prize distribution. St Xaviers were the winners & Frank Anthony stood second. It was a very well organized event and all alumni members were happy to participate in the event.
Football
CBSOBA (Calcutta boys) organised an Inter Alumni Football Tournament on 3rd Aug 2014 at the Calcutta Press Club Grounds. Each team had 5 players and our Alumni was represented by Pankaj Bhutoria, Devesh Vasa, Nikhil Jhanji & other alumni members. It was a closely fought event with ALSOC winning the Tournament and ALMA being the runners up.
Quiz
on 2nd Nov 2014, ALSOC organised its 6th All India Open Quiz at the Xavier Hall in which around 25 alumni of various schools & colleges took part. A team of 3 members had to be made out of which two members should be part of the Alumnus and one from the present roll in the school. Our very own Birla High School Alumni represented by Mr. Kinshuk Biswas, Mr. Aditya Bagree and Mr. Kishalay Banerjee took part in the above event and Stood victorious among 25 other participating alumnis. The winners were presented with trophies and gift vouchers.
Debate 2014
On 22nd November, 2014, the alumni association of La Martiniere- ALMA organized an inter alumni debate at the millennium hall of La Martiniere for girls. Alumni associations of seven schools participated in the debate. The topic of the debate was “The most beautiful things in life are the most useless”. The speakers representing each school were from different walks of life, some working professionals and some still students in various colleges across the country. As soon as the debate started a battle of wits and words ensued with each speaker (one for and one against) trying to prove his points with great fervour. Representing Birla High School were Nikhil Bothra & Soumosekhar Gangopadhyay. The event was judged by Dr. Indrajit Roy (Sheriff, Kolkata) & Mr. S.V. Raman. In the end, after a gruelling session of debating, ALSOC was declared the winners and Birla High School were the Runners up.
